Starlets from a Bollywod movie being shot on a ghat. They had to stop shooting when a wedding party stuck their boat right in the middle of the scene.
These candles were lit by members of one extended family. This guy was from a different puja, one of the two battling for supremacy.
D. is booking these puja guys for her book club. If there's a religious site with better rituals, I want to see it.
A room with a view.
An urban evening in Veranasi.
If you want to get anywhere but the river, you climb.
Weighing wood for the funeral pyres.
Brahmins to be.
Roger, you're the man! So glad for more photos and that you didn't get flung out of the jeep into the jungle. You are going to be reincarnated as a National Geographic photographer.
ReplyDeleteDana, your travelogue is such a wonderful combination of the big picture and the little details (people on the train, R. trapped by the latrine, etc.)that make for great reading.
For stark contrast, let me mention that I barely made it home from Book Club last night, creeping up and down the mtn. in inches of heavy, wet snow - very unexpectedly. Makes one dream of teleportation.
Hooray! The pictures are back! Genius Roger...unless your hard drive gets the virus too. We'll keep a good thought! Loving living vicariously through both of your travelogue entries! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHappy pre-Valentines Day...we still have the threat of snow looming but the daffodil heads are up and the days are wonderfully longer...spring will arrive! Just took Sally and John to the Max line. They are going to SF to watch Helen's dog. They will see Alice tomorrow.
Glad you didn't suffer too long from the food poisoning! Keep safe and well! xo Nancy
